What is it you like most about hybrid cars?
Explain whether or not you like hybrid cars
Also in what ways they are enjoyable to drive around/ how can they improve your standard of living?
Going into depth would be appreciated.
I hate hybrid cars, for several reasons
1- They’re not environmental friendly http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2008/06/10/2269766.htm
2-They’re slow [0-60 in 10.5 sec]
3-They’re ugly http://www.biblelife.org/energy-hybrid.jpg
4-They look unsafe
5-They’re ugly http://automoti.files.wordpress.com/2009/04/2007_toyota_prius.jpg
Still I support environmentalism and there’s a much more efficient alternative fuel which would let us keep our beautiful cars, a fuel which is clean, renewable, and could replace petroleum easily. But there’s a trick to it….It’s illegal! http://hemp-ethanol.blogspot.com/2008/01/economics-history-and-politics-of-hemp.html

I would like to have one . No place to plug in and to expensive.

the fact that they are so ugly so they stand out and i can laugh at the people driving them
they have no power, they aren’t safe, no room for big people, not fun to drive, ugly i don’t ever see myself driving one
they don’t really improve your standard of living if you get into a crash and die because they aren’t safe

East coast actually has some valuable input for the auto companies. They should pey attention to criticism like that because he’s not the only one saying that.
The truth is a series hybrid drive train is a superior drive train because it’s more efficient. They produce less waste heat, You can run the engine at constant peak efficiency, use regenerative breaking, and power a large portion of your driving by a charging from a wall outlet (and that opens up a whole nother can of worms).
There is no limit to the amount of power a hybrid drive train can have. In fact, a hybrid drive train can put many times the amount of torque that the engine produces, to the wheels, while still retaining the efficiency of the super small ICE. Electric drive systems have superior torque characteristics, max torque at stall. Want a good example? Take a look at Diesel locomotives.
Electric drive systems are fundamentally more reliable and require less maintenance because they have a small fraction of the moving parts a ICE drive train has.
If car companies wanted to sell hybrids, they would stress these points. I honestly can’t figure out why they don’t. I do know the auto industry and the oil industry have sort of a one hand washes the other kind of thing.

My wife has a Camry hybrid, and she regularly gets 7 – 8 mpg above the EPA estimate. The car is well-made and luxuriously appointed; after 30 years of having second-hand cars, it was a "present" to herself that she deserved.
There are some really cool hybrids coming out, contrary to current opinions:

Fisker is further ahead, having attracted the necessary venture capital.

I am not wild about Hybrid cars but they are necessary to get to the ultimate goal of pure electric vehicles. The technology that is developed to drive the electric portion of a hybrid vehicle will pay off with better batteries and more efficient electric motors.
In the mean time, Hybrids have two drive lines vs one for either an EV or an ICE powered vehicle, which helps explain why Hybrids cost so much and get only marginally better fuel mileage than a new Honda and worse economy than a 1980 Honda Civic. On the other hand they make a statement that you are helping to save the planet, if you drive in the city. If you drive on the interstate you get worse economy than an efficient ICE powered car.
Ultimately we need to quit burning fuel to move our vehicles around and that means EV’s. Ultimately, again, we need to quit burning coal to make electricity, but in the interim we can recharge our Ev’s or Hybrids at night when we are making energy that we do not use because using electricity, even if it is made with coal is better than creating power and then not using it.

I’ve only driven one & that was at an auto auction. It was very quiet, you don’t have to use the starter motor if the car is charged enough & less stops at the gas pumps make hybrids worth driving and owning.
