I have this article where Shell is thinking of using cleaner fossil fuels and various alternative sources to possibly fuel hydrogen fuel cells.
Questions:
-Does this benefit Shell by choosing fossil fuels? (Because I think fossil fuels are a major part of their industry)
-Are there still environmental issues associated with this?
-How would this effect their businesses internationally or their own major industries?

In the first instance you have to realize that Jeroen van der Veer did not write the article attributed to him. It was prepared by Shell Oil’s public relations department. It was printed in the English "The Times" for a reason. Reading the article I would say it was to encourage government subsidies of energy. The article says nothing that has not been published elsewhere but reads as if Shell Oil is responsible for all the innovation. The article basically plays the reader for a fool.

Shell Oil is … primarily an oil and gas company. Yes, they are in the fossil fuel business.

In the article they say that gas is the cleanest fossil fuel. But since 95% of hydrogen is made from gas, coal and oil there is at least an argument that hydrogen is a fossil fuel. It does burn cleaner than gas. But while gas is not usually refined there is pollution associated with making it into hydrogen. First from the pollution associated with energy production and then by products.

Oil companies very much want the world to pursue a hydrogen economy as there are huge profits to be made …and they want governments to subsidize it. (It is kind of like "cake and eat it too")

I hope someone wrote the editor a counter to the article.

Early adopters of any new technology always pay a higher price for the privilege of being the first on the block with their new gadget. This is no different in the case of hybrid cars. Current prices for a new hybrid range from $19000 to $55000. It is hard to make a case that gas savings alone will make up for the difference in price of these vehicles.

The cutting edge technology that these cars use to achieve maximum fuel efficiency is impressive to say the least. Although, I am still waiting for the ignition key to go away. But there are several economical and ethical reasons why your next car should be a hybrid.

Foremost, hybrid cars use less gasoline that a comparable gasoline only car.

We are all tired of being at the mercy of the oil companies. Any technology that allows us to pass by a gas station a little more often would be worth the cost. When you choose a hybrid, you are choosing technology over gasoline. At least you are in a little more control of where your money goes. Would you rather be funding advances in technology for better hybrid and electric vehicles or lining the oil company’s pockets?

In some areas hybrid cars can travel in the commuter lane with just the driver

This is usually limited to a certain number of cars and will not last forever. But for now take advantage of a slightly less stressful commute.

Some states offer a tax credit for the purchase of hybrid or alternative fuel vehicles.

Anytime we can get money back from the government, that is a good thing.

With fewer emissions than their all gas counterparts, hybrid cars are better for the environment.

Granted some vehicles are hybrids only in name. If the gasoline engine is the primary engine and the electric is only used as a backup, you are not that much better off than an all gas vehicle. In fact, there are some all gas vehicles that beat some hybrids in gas mileage and emissions. However, if the electric motor is the primary and the gas is the backup engine you will see large reductions in total emissions. As of this writing the only production hybrid that meets this description is the Prius from Toyota. But others will soon follow. Technology is advancing rapidly and auto makers will be bringing more alternative fuel, hybrid, and electric vehicles to market.

As more people turn to hybrid and electric cars for their primary mode of transportation, the gas guzzling cars of the 20th century will be harder and harder to find. Our kids will thank us for the cleaner air and water. Our grandchildren may ask us one day what smog is and we can tell them tall tails of grey skies and “Spare the Air” days.

Today’s increasing costs is no doubt a burden to consumers. We all want to spend less and are constantly on the lookout for better deals that do not sacrifice quality. For car owners, this means less expensive auto parts that still boost car performance. It also means fuel savers that can maximize your engine’s fuel for less replacement. Thanks to much research and technological innovations, a great and effective fuel saver was born: the Tornado Fuel Saver. Let us count the ways why the Tornado Fuel Saver will benefit you in more ways than one…

What is the Tornado Fuel Saver? Also called the Tornado Gas Saver or Tornado Gasoline Saver, the Tornado Fuel Saver is an automotive air channeling tool that creates a swirling air motion, allowing the air to move in a faster and more efficient way by whirling air around corners and bends. This results to more fuel saved. It took ten years of research and development before the Tomato Fuel Saver was made available to consumers to ensure only top-notch quality. It is made up of stainless steel and precisely engineered slotted fins that convert normal air intake flow into a powerful spinning vortex that mixes air and fuel together. Thus, better fuel mileage and performance is achieved.

What other benefits can I get from the Tornado Fuel Saver? In general, your car will achieve better fuel atomization. Your gas mileage also increases up to 28% while your engine’s horsepower can reach 13 hp or more. These figures are validated through a road testing performed at an emission laboratory licensed by the EPA confirmed.

How does the Tornado Fuel Saver work? First, it creates a vortex or a swirling effect to the engine of your car, truck or SUV. Think of a mini-tornado moving through the intakes of your automobile. This swirling effect helps to atomize the mixture of air and fuel in the combustion chamber. The said mixture results to a more complete and efficient burning of fuel when it is exposed to ignition. Thus, your engine benefits from improved airflow, better fuel economy, increased acceleration, more power and less pollutants.

Which types of vehicles can use the Tornado Fuel Saver? Good news, the Tornado Fuel Saver works with almost all models and makes of vehicles. So whatever car, truck, SUV or RV you have, you can use the Tornado Fuel Saver with it. It is also applicable to both carbureted and electronic fuel injected engines and in both gasoline and diesel engines. Plus the Tornado Fuel Saver is patented worldwide so that more vehicle owners around the globe can enjoy the car benefits only the Tornado Fuel Saver could give you.

Is the Tornado Fuel Saver really worth your money? No other fuel saver could give you much more than your money’s worth. Aside from being affordable, the Tornado Fuel Saver actually saves you more as time goes by! As long as it is attached to your car, you will continue to save your gas and your money. For your satisfaction, however, the Tornado Fuel Saver offers a money back guarantee.

Do not waste more time paying much for gas and settling for mediocre engine performance. Install the Tornado Fuel Saver to your car and get the ride of your life.
